EV Training is an easy way to give your Pokemon free stats. EV is short for Effort Value, which are points awarded to your Pokemon after battle. Each Pokemon is assigned a stat that rewards EV points after its defeated. For example, Psyduck gives 1 EV in Special Attack to your Pokemon after its defeated. Each Pokemon can have a maximum number of 510 EVs with 252 in each stat.
EV Training Mechanics in Scarlet and Violet
EV Training is largely unchanged in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet from previous generations, but there are a few things to consider first:
- There is no Pokérus in Scarlet & Violet
- Defeating a Pokemon rewards EVs to every Pokemon in your party
- Auto-battling does not give EVs
- You can check a Pokemon’s EVs by pressing L in its summary menu
Since receiving 1 or 2 EVs per battle would take forever, it’s important to utilize Power items. By giving your Pokemon a Power item, it will receive an additional 8 EVs. Thankfully, these items are pretty cheap — you can buy them for $10,000 each at Delibird Presents from the “General Goods” section.

EV Training Locations in Scarlet and Violet
Now that you know how to EV train in Scarlet and Violet, you need to know where to train.
Here are the easy and low-level training locations:
EV | Pokemon | Location |
HP | Paldean Wooper, Azurill, Lechonk | South Province (Area One) |
Attack | Yungoos and Shinx | South Province (Area Three) |
Defense | Tarountula and Scatterbug | South Province (Area One) |
Special Attack | Psyduck | South Province (Area One) |
Special Defense | Spoink | South Province (Area Three) |
Speed | Rookidee and Fletchling | South Province (Area One) |
Here are the harder and higher-level training locations, which have Pokemon that yield 2 EVs instead of 1 EV, which makes training slightly faster:
EV | Pokemon | Location |
HP | Chansey | South Province (Area Six) |
Attack | Flamigo, Paldean Tauros | East Province (Area Two) |
Defense | Carkol | East Province (Area Three) |
Special Attack | Girafarig | Area Zero |
Special Defense | Floette | Area Zero |
Speed | Jumpluff | Area Zero |
Vitamins, Feathers, and Berries
You don’t necessarily need to do traditional EV training. If you have enough money, you can buy vitamins from Chansey Supply for $10,000 each, which will raise one stat by 10 EVs:
HP Up | HP |
Protein | Attack |
Iron | Defend |
Carbos | Speed |
Calcium | Special Attack |
Zinc | Special Defense |
You can also use feathers, which will raise EVs, but only by 1:
Health Feather | HP |
Muscle Feather | Attack |
Resist Feather | Defense |
Genius Feather | Special Attack |
Clever Feather | Special Defense |
Swift Feather | Speed |
And if you somehow screw up your EVs, don’t worry. You can use berries to get rid of EVs. Each of these berries reduces the Pokemon’s EV by 10:
Pomeg | Lowers HP |
Kelpsy | Lowers Attack |
Qualot | Lowers Defense |
Hondew | Lowers Special Attack |
Grepa | Lowers Special Defense |
Tomato | Lowers Speed |
